Johann Meintjies

Former Springbok gymnast Johann Meintjes once represented South Africa through strength and movement. After a devastating neck injury left him paralysed, his journey could easily have ended there. Instead, decades later, he found a new way back to the Olympic Games — this time behind the camera. What struck me while photographing Johann was not tragedy, but quiet determination. The same focus that once made him an elite athlete now lives behind the lens.
